Trouble with MX View

Hi Folks,
I have had my MX2424 for the last 5 years, used very minimaly in that time awaiting the build of a new building for a studio. Finally done and racked up the machine added a 73G external drive and hooked up a lap top with MX view 2.0 on it ( the machine has version 1.4 on it still). I can seemigly connect to the machine through ethernet. The machineID and lastproject show up in View but no functions work. When I try to view the network settings or use any other function I get an error message. "Unable to connect to the machine listing Name, Ident, Serial Number, and Descrition ((all correct) (taken from the machine I assume)). Please try again in a few seconds". I loaded another computer with MX View 1.4 ( a newer version I'm assuming evev though the version number is incrementally less). and the same type of error condition exists although the message in the windows is "Pending Connection). Can anyone please tell me what might be the problem here?
Thank you in advance,
Mark

You should be able to find what your looking for by going to the MX 2424 documents page at the top of the support page.
Read thru everything. You should upgrade your MX view and the OS on the machine.
I don't know what OS your running on your laptop but there may be issues with the newer widows and apple OS's.
I'm not good at any of this computer stuff. All I know is I followed the instructions nice and slow and it came together for me.
Hope this was helpful.

Make sure you're using a Cat 5
crossover
cable - different wiring than the standard -
Verify the IP's are identical in the laptop and on the MX Menu 950 -
Do reboot everything -
Start with that...
